Gary Raman

Presenter bio

Gary Raman is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with over 15 years of experience in HVAC and building services engineering, delivering complex commercial, healthcare, industrial, and infrastructure projects across Australia. His work spans system design, compliance, optimisation, and delivery of high-performance HVAC solutions with a strong focus on sustainability and human comfort.

Beyond conventional engineering practice, Gary is known for his cross-disciplinary curiosity and systems thinking. He is the author of Subtle Powers for Super Leaders book, where he explores human behaviour, adaptability, and hidden drivers of performance. This same curiosity drives his interest in connecting engineering systems with natural and human processes.

Fascinated by how the human body self-regulates temperature, air quality, circulation, and recovery, Gary began exploring parallels between human physiology and HVAC system design. This led to his concept of biologically inspired HVAC thinking using principles such as feedback control, adaptability, redundancy, and self-repair observed in the human body to inform the next generation of smart, sustainable, and human-centric HVAC systems.

Through this work, Gary aims to inspire engineers to look beyond standards and specifications and move towards nature-led, adaptive design thinking that aligns engineering systems more closely with how humans actually function and thrive.
