Presenter bio
Kanthasamy Mohan is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with more than 35 years of expertise in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC&R) systems design, asset management, and sustainable building technology.
He holds a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, India and a Master of Engineering Science from the University of New South Wales. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng, NER) with Engineers Australia and a member of the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating (AIRAH).
Mohan’s career spans engineering design and management across government, education, and private sectors, including Australian Construction Services, the Australian National University, and the ACT Government. His work has consistently focused on advancing energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and strategic asset management in the built environment.
He is the developer of a novel reversible, split-circuit central hydronic heating/cooling system, reviewed by the AIRAH’s Technical Committee on Electrification of the Built Environment. This innovation reduces coil depths, pipe sizes, air side pressure drop and fan energy, while optimising infrastructure usage, minimising embodied carbon and lowering both capital and operational costs compared to traditional four-pipe systems.
